Who am I?

Why am I standing?

Public spending in Yorkshire is £2,600 less per person per a year than Scotland and London, according to HM Treasury, 2023. That’s a shortfall of over £14 billion in a year. Our heavy industry has been in decline for decades. With a proper devolution settlement and our fair share of public spending, Yorkshire could lead the way in the green industrial revolution.

New industries need a workforce, I want to build specialist green technology colleges, for school leavers and adults who wish to retrain; likewise, we need specialist colleges in healthcare, social care and dentistry.

Education at all levels needs proper investment; we must invest in our future and enable people to retrain for new economies.

The things I care about in my constituency

Public transport in Leeds North West – indeed, in the whole of Leeds and Yorkshire – is terrible. Meeting green targets and cutting pollution requires greener transport which is good enough for people to want to use it. We need a West Yorkshire metro system, with underground and elevated sections, to cut through the worst congestion. A couple of slow tram routes won’t do it; we need real ambition and a proper devolution settlement to secure the funding.

I also support reopening Yorkshire’s ‘lost’ railways, and providing more and better rural bus services.

We need to build greener homes – with solar and first-class insulation as standard – on rejuvenated, derelict sites; existing homes need green subsidies.

Only with true local powers and fair funding, can Yorkshire lead the green revolution.
