“I want to promote and enhance our constituency’s profile on the national and international stage, establishing our not-so-little patch of Scotland as the top place to live, work and visit in UK”
Name
Ellie Merton
Constituency
Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk
I am the only independent candidate at this general election standing for this gorgeous, rural and costal constituency in the Scottish Borders: a refreshing alternative to the seven other party-only candidates.
Who am I?
Why am I standing?
I am standing to put forward my ambitious manifesto to make Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk the best place in UK to live, work, learn, thrive and visit. I have a range of policy proposals, starting with making creative industries careers viable in the region and piloting a ground-breaking nature restoration scheme, that I hope will put our constituency on the map of forward-thinking UK regions to be brave enough to tackle head on UK-wide poverty and subsistence living issues, along with the climate emergency, with its own initiatives.
What I care about in my constituency
In Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk, we are experiencing enormous issues with the cost of living crisis, energy poverty, food-bank reliance, homelessness, lack of affordable housing, crawling internet connectivity, lack of adequate travel infrastructure, and alarming nature depletion.
