Sunak agrees to more oil exploration whilst Climate Party hits fundraising target
The Climate Party crowdfunder has beaten its fundraising target and is in overfunding, yet Conservative leadership throws integrity under the bus by confirming further new oil and gas licences.
Leader of the Climate Party Ed Gemmell, says, “I am astonished in the middle of an unprecedented heatwave in Europe and floods in other parts of the world, that the leaders of the Conservative Party choose short-term popularity over safety of children and grandchildren and prosperity for Britain. I just can’t understand why they don’t realise this is the biggest business opportunity on the planet. By that I don’t mean oil and gas drilling, I mean leading the new clean industrial revolution.”
McKinsey estimates there is a £275 Trillion opportunity for the UK to achieve net zero. Why do the Conservatives not want us to lead that and gain prosperity for this country?
Marianne Overton MBE shares her sentiment, “Pressing ahead with more oil & gas licences shows reckless negligence. This is not a time for knee jerk and self-serving commitments. The Conservatives have misread the Uxbridge and South Ruislip by-election campaign outcome. People do care about the environment - as shown by the by-election exit interviews - they had an issue with the way the scheme was being delivered.
She adds, “The sentiment of the ULEZ scheme isn’t flawed, the scheme itself is. Even low emission vehicles are being told they have to be scrapped. The scheme is nonsensical with its arbitrary extra charge and the Conservatives are confusing this with a lack of public interest in the climate crisis.”
The Climate Party is delighted that our first ever Crowdfunder has been so successful. Much of its success could be attributed to the brave and honest showing in the Uxbridge and South Ruislip and Selby and Ainsty by-elections. Whilst it was never a case of winning the by-elections, it put a stake in the ground for climate action, prosperity for British people and independent voices in parliament.
