It's Countdown time to the General Election

Happy New Year to all from the Climate Party. Now the Christmas decorations are packed away it's time to shoot Climate Change to the top of the political agenda. It looks like the General Election is going to be held towards the latter part of the year and we have lots to achieve before the polling booths open.

Now is the time to get the message through that the Climate Party is a single-issue party driving for British leadership of the clean industrial revolution by decarbonising by 2030. There is vast opportunity for Britain commercially in leading with this ambitious zero carbon target. We already know 87% of GDP globally is covered by a net zero or decarbonisation commitment. The direction of travel is clear and Britain needs to up its game and lead if it is to benefit economically.

Climate Change begins at

home ...

The UK needs to take national action to reduce emissions.

By leading the Clean Energy Revolution and the wider Clean Industrial Revolution.

A Clean Energy Revolution led by the Climate Party will not just bring down global temperatures - it will boost the UK economy providing prosperity for British people while simultaneously cleaning up our air, rivers and oceans, protecting our green spaces and slowing down the rapid decline in our flora and fauna. For example:

  • Switching to electric vehicles will reduce pollution drastically on the streets where we live.

  • Pushing for strong legal protection of our green spaces will help to save our carbon sinks.

  • Campaigning to reverse the planning restrictions on wind farms will boost the industry providing money and jobs while significantly reduce the UK's dependency on fossil fuels.

The huge amount of innovation and technology rolled out by the UK during the Industrial Revolution brought rapid advances in transport, manufacturing, agriculture and energy supply to the whole of the Western World. We now need to get our innovation and productivity out from beneath the dust covers. British industry and farming will be given a much-needed boost if the UK leads the way with an earlier decarbonisation target as this will drive investment and innovation and result in a massive boost of our clean energy and eco-tech exports.

After returning from COP 28 last year, Climate Party supporter, Chidi Obihara said: "Attending COP 28 in Dubai brought home both the immensity of the challenge of climate change ... as well as the determined ambition that many participants at the conference had to transition in a way that improves the lives of millions."

Also attending COP 28 was Climate Party supporter and member of Lincolnshire Independents, Marianne Overton, CBE. Marianne was asked to speak on what councils are doing to tackle climate change, how councils finance tackling the climate crisis and on how climate change impacts on mental health.

It was great to hear from both Chidi and Marianne in "real time" from COP 28, but the jury is still out on whether the event has made any real impact on global climate policy.

What YOU can do

Media awareness

We need to raise awareness of the Climate Party across the whole of the UK via TV, radio, print and social media. Climate Party leader, Ed Gemmell, has already been interviewed more than 40 times in the last year or so on LBC radio, Talk TV, TRT World and GB News among others but will reach a much wider audience if he appears on the mainstream TV channels - and he is great viewing!

So please let us know if you have contacts in the media who can help to raise the Climate Party and Ed's profile and get our message across to a much bigger, national audience.

Support

We also need more supporters and volunteers to help with our election campaign. Maybe you or someone you know could put themselves forward as a Climate Party candidate in their local constituency? The more candidates fielded by the Climate Party, the louder our voice to put pressure on the main parties to push climate change to the top of their agendas. Please encourage your friends and contacts to support the Climate Party by registering on our website and ask them to follow us on social media including Facebook, Instagram and X @theclimateparty and @EdmundGemmell.

And in order to achieve all the above, we need funds, please donate what you can. Also if you are not in a position to support The Climate Party yourself financially, do you happen to know anyone else especially philanthropists who care about the planet who may want to help us? Please put us in touch.

For more information about the Climate Party, to find out more about becoming a Climate Party candidate for the General Election or to feedback to us on this newsletter please e-mail us at info@theclimate.party.
